(Kenosha, Wis., Nov. 4) -- The McKendree Women's Volleyball team rebounded from its first conference loss yesterday by defeating the University of Wisconsin Parkside Rangers (12-16, 7-9 GLVC) in four sets on the road. With the victory, the Bearcats improve to 20-6 overall, and 14-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Arela Williams collected her 12
th double-double of the season, leading the Bearcats with 15 kills, and adding 17 digs. Not to be outdone, senior Amanda Geiger put together her 18
th double-double performance this year, with 13 kills and 10 digs.
Sophomore Kelly Voss led McKendree on defense, recording 20 digs, while junior setter Morgan Melchert contributed 13 to go with her 41 assists. Freshman Elle Russell had a solid night, putting away ten kills, as well as 11 digs. Sophomore Megan Marks cashed in six total blocks, and compiled 9 kills in the win.
The first set was a marathon, with McKendree fighting off two set points down 22-24, as they clawed their way to a 32-30 win. The second set was controlled by the Rangers, who took it 25-16, knotting the match at one set a-piece.
Parkside scored four of the first five points to start out the third set, however the Bearcats regrouped, and took over control with a 9-2 scoring run. McKendree took the 2-1 lead, and carried that momentum with them into the fourth set, downing the Rangers 25-17 to solidify the four-set victory.
The Bearcats return home to the Statham Sports Center on Tuesday night, as they will face a GLVC Central Division foe in the University of Missouri St. Louis Tritons at 7 pm.
