Men's Water Polo Places Fifth in MAWPC - West

(ERIE, Penn., Nov. 5) – The McKendree University men's water polo team defeated Connecticut College 7-6 on Sunday afternoon in Erie, PA. at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Western Region Championships.
 
The Bearcats improve to 7-17 on the season with the victory. The Bearcats finished the season at fifth place in the MAWPC - Western Region.
 
The Camels opened up the scoring in the first quarter but the Bearcats responded with a goal from freshman defender Abraham Allen. McKendree took its first lead of the contest on a goal from sophomore attacker Daniel Peralta. Connecticut answered with a goal of its own to even the score back up at 2-2 before the close of the first quarter.
 
McKendree owned most of the second quarter, netting three goals as Connecticut only scored once. The Bearcats received two goals from sophomore attacker Michael Krause and one goal from sophomore attacker Joseph Mahan. The second quarter closed with McKendree leading 5-3.
 
The third quarter was all McKendree as the Bearcats netted two goals while holding the Camels off the scoreboard. Goal scorers for McKendree in the quarter were sophomore attackers Izaya Owotor and Robert Esson. The third quarter closed with the Bearcats leading 7-3. McKendree held on to win the game 7-6 and take fifth place in the MAWPC – Western Region. Freshman goaltender Ori Scanlon won player of the game after playing all four quarters for the Bearcats, registering 15 saves.
 
McKendree attacker Joseph Mahan garnered Second Team All-Tournament honors for his play in the tournament. Mahan scored once in Sunday's game, and three times in Saturday's contest for four goals in the tournament.
