(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 9) – The McKendree University women's hockey team heads to Chicago, Ill. this weekend to compete at the Robert Morris University Showcase against some of the top teams in American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Women's D1. The Bearcats are set to open up play against No. 8 University of Minnesota at 3:50 p.m. on Friday at the Edge – East Rink. On Saturday McKendree will face off against No. 5 University of Massachusetts at the Edge – East Rink at 2 p.m., and on Sunday the Bearcats will take on No. 14 Robert Morris University at the Edge – West Rink at 1:10 p.m.
McKendree is 5-2 overall on the season after sweeping the Chicago Fury AAA last weekend. The Bearcats are 3-2 against ACHA opponents and are slotted at No. 12 in the most recent ACHA Women's D1 rankings.
Sophomore forward Domenika Reusche leads the Bearcats in scoring with seven points, including four goals and three assists. Sophomore forwards Alyssa Albee and Lara Wentz slot in behind Reusche with six points each. Albee has netted four goals and added two assists, with Wentz scoring two goals and registering four assists. All three McKendree goaltenders have seen action this season, with freshman goaltender Frankie Bonanno getting cleared to play her first game last weekend. In her first game, Bonanno turned aside 30 of 32 shots for a save percentage of 0.938 and her first collegiate victory. Sophomore goaltender Jazmin Malinowski is off to an outstanding start this season with a record of 3-1, registering a goals-against average of 0.50, two shutouts, and a save percentage of 0.981. Freshman goaltender Sydney Akai-Platt started her second game of the season last weekend, earning her first collegiate victory by way of stopping 17 of 19 shots on goal for a save percentage of 0.895.
