(EVANSVILLE, Ind., Feb. 25) – The offensive picked up where it left off for the Bearcat softball squad as McKendree (8-5) split its games on Saturday (Feb. 25) at the Midwest Region Crossover. The Bearcats opened the day with a commanding 9-0 victory over Trevecca Nazarene, in five innings, before faltering to Saginaw Valley State 7-2, for the second time this year.

Extending her hit streak to five games, senior Hanna Branch (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) had a standout day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, a home run, and added a stolen base. Senior Erica Schulke added a pair of hits going 2-for-3 in game two.

Game One: McKendree 9, Trevecca 0 // 5 innings

McKendree would strike first using three solo home runs in the top of the second to jump out to an early lead. Freshman Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame ) led off the inning sending one over the leftfield wall, before Branch and Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) registered back-to-back long balls.

Trevecca would have their opportunities drawing three walks and three hits, but stranded seven runners on the afternoon.

A six-run fifth inning propelled the Bearcats to a 9-0 victory, with a Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) two RBI single up the middle and a pinch-hit RBI single by Samantha Cameron (Dix, Ill./Centralia, Ill.) highlighting the scoring.

Senior Holly Magre (Festus, Mo./St. Pius X) (5-2) recorded her fourth complete game of the year in the shutout, while giving up three walks and striking out four.

Game Two: Saginaw Valley State 7, McKendree 2

SVSU struck first using three hits and two Bearcat errors in the first, before a three-run home run in the third frame made it 5-0 in favor of the Cardinals.

Two innings later the Cardinals extended their lead to 7-0 with an RBI double and single.

The Bearcats answered back with a run in the sixth and seventh, including a RBI sacrifice fly from Branch and a pinch-hit RBI single from Liz Klussman (Washington, Mo./Washington).

Comeback efforts would fall short for McKendree stranding three runners in the seventh.

Freshman Kylee Silliman (Fremont, IA/Oskaloosa ) (3-1) took her first collegiate loss giving up four earned runs on five hits in two and a third innings of work.
