Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

McKendree Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker in Overtime to No. 18 Regis, 13-12

(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 8) – The Mckendree University women's lacrosse squad fell to 2-2 on the season after dropping a heartbreaking overtime loss to No. 18 Regis University, 13-12.

In the loss, McKendree's Bree Suter (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) and Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) would tally four points each, recording three goals and an assist respectivly. In the cage, Amy Porta (Ellisville, MO/Marquette) would record 14 saves with 10 ground ball pickups.

The Bearcats' offense came out firing on all cylinders jumping out to an early 3-0 lead with a pair of goals from Bree Suter (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill).  Regis responded with 22:54 remaining in the first half and would tack on another just 31 seconds later.

McKendree would use a pair of free position goals from Hannah Sugarman (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional ) and Victoria Lelo (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) to help the Bearcats end the first half on a 4-1 run, taking a 7-3 lead into the break.

Both teams would trade off goals to begin the second half, but the Rangers offense became too much for the Bearcats to handle.

Out shooting McKendree 34-26, the Rangers would end the match on a 9-0 scoring run. Regis found the game-tying goal from Lauren Hurd on a free position shot with 38 seconds remaining.

The Bearcats had one final opportunity with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation as Victoria Lelo (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) sent a bullet shot from the right side that found the back of the net. Unfortunately, for the Bearcats the goal was waved off as Lelo was called, and received a yellow card, for a dangerous follow through, forcing overtime.

The Rangers would take advantage of the man-up situation scoring with 1:17 remaining in overtime to escape the upset.

McKendree is back in action Monday, March 13 as they travel east to take on Georgian Court University. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. eastern time.
