(Allendale, Mich. April 23) – The McKendree University women's lacrosse team moves to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as it fell in the final minute of play to drop a 16-15 contest to Grand Valley State University this afternoon.
McKendree held the advantage at halftime leading 11-9, however a second half push from the Lakers gave Grand Valley State the 16-15 victory. In the final 28 seconds of the game, Sarah Zwilsky of Grand Valley State made a point blank save on the doorstep to deny the game tying goal.
The Bearcats outshot the Lakers 40-38 in the game with both teams putting 29 on cage.
Amy Porta (Ellisville, MO/Marquette) recorded 13 saves in net.
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, MO/Barat Academy) posted seven points on six goals and one assist to lead the offense.
Victoria Lelo (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) added two goals and two assists and
Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) contributed three goals in the McKendree effort.
Defensively, Salthouse grabbed a game high six draw controls while Lelo added five. Lelo,
Ola Abdallah (Florissant, MO/Hazelwood West), and
Hannah Sugarman (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional ) each collected four groundballs as McKendree won the groundball war 23-16.
The women's lacrosse team is back in action at Leemon Field on Friday, April 28 at 4 p.m against University of Findlay. The weekend home stand wraps up with senior day against Tiffin University on Sunday, April 30 at noon.
