(Lebanon, Ill., September 10) -- The McKendree University women's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the 2017 campaign as they opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play with a 3-1 victory over University of Missouri-St. Louis this afternoon.
McKendree outshot the Tritons 21-8 putting nine shots on net. The Bearcats also held an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) kicked off the match netting a penalty shot in the fifth minute of play to give McKendree an early lead.
50 seconds into the second period,
Jane Skaggs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne ) was able to capitalize on a
Liz Kaiser (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline) corner kick that Carroll assisted to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.
Madyson Mossman (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) netted her first goal of the 2017 season as Carroll added another assist to her resume to total four on the season.
The Tritons would take advantage of a free kick opportunity to cut the lead to 3-1 in the 75 minute of play.
In net for the Bearcats was
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) who collected three saves on the day.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday as the Bearcats welcome Parkland College to Leemon Field for a 5 p.m. contest.
