(Oakland City, Ind., September 12) – The McKendree University men's soccer team improved to 2-1 on the 2017 campaign as they defeated Oakland City University in a 1-0 contest this evening.
Coach Gyllenborg on the win
"It was a great way to respond to a disappointing loss to UMSL. It may not have been the cleanest game today, but the work rate, effort, and determination to get a result was fantastic. We were also able to play a lot of guys today which was not only nice to rest some guys for this weekend, but we also saw some quality performances from the guys who came of off the bench, which is encouraging moving forward."
The Bearcats outshot the Mighty Oaks 6-4 in the contest putting three shots on frame. McKendree also held the advantage in corner kicks 7-1.
Fredrik Hansen (Oslo, Norway/Persbraaten Videregaaende Skole) scored the lone goal of the contest on a penalty kick in the second half for his first goal of the season.
Ian Bender (Edwardsville, IL/Scott Gallagher Academy) tallied one save to earn his first shutout of the season.
