(Lebanon, Ill., September 28) – The McKendree University women's soccer team gears up for a key weekend in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play with two road matches facing University of Illinois-Springfield and No. 18 Quincy University.
 
Earlier this week, the United Soccer Coaches (USC) released its NCAA DII National Rankings that featured the Bearcats jumping up eight spots to the No. 16 position. Quincy, who the Bearcats play on Sunday, dropped three spots to No. 18.
 
The Bearcats
McKendree heads into week five of the 2017 slate on top of the conference standings. Junior Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) has a commanding lead in GLVC categories of points (17), goals (6), and assists (5). Freshman Alynnah O'Leary (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville ) is tied in second in goals (4), and sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) posts a GLVC leading save percentage (.929) The Ajax, Ontario goalkeeper is coming off a GLVC Defensive Player of the Week honor in which she recorded two shutouts on 14 saves for the weekend.
 
The Prairie Stars
Illinois-Springfield looks to move up the ranks as they currently sit ninth in the conference standings. Meghan Delaney and Karisa Rogers fuel the Prairie Stars offense combining for 17 of the team's 24 points. Courtney Johnson and Paloma Guijarro have split time in net for UIS. Guijarro posts the better record at 4-1.
 
 
The Hawks
Quincy heads into the weekend trailing the Bearcats in the GLVC standings in the second place spot. The Hawks offensive unit receives a balanced production from Alex Severino, Katie Heiligenstein, and Mackenzie Rief, with Heiligenstein and Reif both adding two game-winning goals. Megan Swanson has recorded all 720 minutes of play in net posting four shutouts on a .870 save percentage.
