(Lebanon, Ill., September 2) – The McKendree University women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the 2017 campaign by downing Kentucky Wesleyan College 5-1 this evening.
The Bearcats peppered the Panthers goal outshooting Kentucky Wesleyan 28-9 putting 18 shots on cage.
Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Reigning Offensive Player of the Year,
Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) netted her first two goals of the season to give McKendree an early 2-0 lead in the first on passes from
Madyson Mossman (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) and
Kate Bixby (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North).
Rachel Kaltwasser (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) closed the first half by finding the back of the net in the 44 minute on an assist from
Jane Skaggs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne ).
Freshman
Alynnah O'Leary (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville ) opened up scoring in the second half finishing a long stretch pass from goalkeeper
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) to give the Bearcats a 4-0 lead. Minutes later, O'Leary would strike gold again as
Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) found the extra pass to give McKendree the 5-0 advantage.
The Panthers would not be silenced however as Breigh Haase was able to find the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 64 minute to cut the deficit to 5-1.
In net for McKendree was Brochu who improved to 2-0.
Maddie Shea (Racine, WI/St. Catherines) saw the final 29:37 of play collecting two saves.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Sunday, September 10 as they host University of Missouri-St. Louis for a noon contest.
