(Lebanon, Ill., September 8) – The McKendree University men's soccer team is geared up for its 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) season opener as the team hosts University of Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

McKendree looks to build off its season opening 3-1 victory over then No. 11 Fort Hays State as they open up league play when the Tritons travel to Leemon Field on Sunday.

"It's a great opening win," said head coach Scott Gyllenborg. "We want to take the positives from it, but also at the same time it's the first game of the season and we have a long way to go. The early part of this week was bringing everyone back down and then building them back up technically and tactically."

Scouting the Tritons
Heading into the weekend the Tritons sit at (0-1-1) overall coming off a 2-2 draw with Northern Michigan University. Missouri-St. Louis opens up the weekend with conference foe, Southern Indiana.

"UMSL's historically a GLVC Tournament team, they're very well coached and a big, physical athletic team. They present problems in their physicality on set pieces, so we have to be prepared for that and maximize our opportunities."

Offensively, Pat Ries leds the Tritons with two goals this season. In net, Jake Schmidt has seen all the time in net collecting nine saves on sixteen shots faced.

Conference Leaders
Individually McKendree freshman, Gonzalo Correa (Santiago, Chile/Athletic Study Center) enters the weekend leading the conference in goals per game (2) and points per game with (4.0).
