(LEBANON, Ill., Oct 19) – The McKendree University men's soccer team bested the Bulldogs of Truman State University Friday evening 2-0 in a high-intensity 90 minutes of play. The Bearcats improve to 9-4-1 overall and 7-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
 
In a game that saw a total of 28 shots, McKendree outshot Truman State 18 to 10. After a back-and-forth first half which included plenty of scoring opportunities for both sides, the Bearcats were able to capitalize on their chances in the 76^th minute when Raul Artega (Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico) buried a shot into the back of the Truman State net, courtesy of an Eddie Davis (Arundel, England/Amersham College) assist. Just five minutes later, Davis found himself once more on the score sheet after drilling a free kick opportunity into the goal for McKendree, further putting the nail in the coffin and solidifying a 2-0 victory. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Cortazar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Santa Teresa de Jesus) collected two saves and earned his sixth shutout on the season.
 
The men's soccer team will step on the pitch once more October 21 at 2:30 p.m. as they host GLVC foe Rockhurst University.
