(LEBANON, Ill., Oct 19) – The McKendree University men's soccer team bested the Bulldogs of Truman State University Friday evening 2-0 in a high-intensity 90 minutes of play. The Bearcats improve to 9-4-1 overall and 7-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
In a game that saw a total of 28 shots, McKendree outshot Truman State 18 to 10. After a back-and-forth first half which included plenty of scoring opportunities for both sides, the Bearcats were able to capitalize on their chances in the 76
th minute when
Raul Artega (Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico) buried a shot into the back of the Truman State net, courtesy of an
Eddie Davis (Arundel, England/Amersham College) assist. Just five minutes later, Davis found himself once more on the score sheet after drilling a free kick opportunity into the goal for McKendree, further putting the nail in the coffin and solidifying a 2-0 victory. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper
Alvaro Cortazar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Santa Teresa de Jesus) collected two saves and earned his sixth shutout on the season.
The men's soccer team will step on the pitch once more October 21 at 2:30 p.m. as they host GLVC foe Rockhurst University.
