(LEBANON, Ill., Oct 21) – The McKendree University men's soccer team was defeated by the Hawks of Rockhurst University 2-1 this Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats drop to 9-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
McKendree dominated in scoring chances, outshooting the Hawks 15 to three, however Rockhurst was nearly perfect in terms of their execution. Rockhurst got on the score sheet first just three and a half minutes into the game after on a cross-field pass to chip-in goal right in front of the Bearcat net. They would score once more in the 35
th minute of play after Hawk forward Dylan Brown netted a breakaway opportunity. McKendree would not be silenced, however, after freshman defender
Jett Gay (Springfield, IL/Glenwood High School) sent a curving lob ball into the cage in the 67
th minute to cut the Rockhurst lead to just one. The Bearcats continued to push the pace and challenge the Rockhurst defense with plenty of their scoring chances missing just high or wide of the goal. Despite these efforts, McKendree remained with one goal through 90 minutes of play.
The men's soccer team will return to action in their regular season finale on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. as they host GLVC foe University of Missouri-St. Louis for senior day.
