(LEBANON, Ill., Oct 21) – The McKendree University women's soccer team defeated the Hawks of Rockhust University 1-0 Sunday Afternoon. The Bearcats now sit at 12-3-1 overall and 8-3-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
Prior to kickoff, the Bearcats honored seniors
Jane Skaggs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne),
Rachel Ford (Trenton, IL/Wesclin),
Emma Dering (Hazelwood, MO/Duchesne),
Sydnie Markowski (Foristell, Mo/Wentzville Holt), and
Morgan Simms (Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit) for their time dedicated to the women's soccer program.
The Bearcats were outshot by Rockhurst 17 to seven, but were more efficient with their opportunities. Freshman midfielder
Emma Knoebel (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School) netted the game-winning goal from 25 yards out in the the 24
th minute of play, courtesy of a Madison Mossman assist. The Bearcats would spend the rest of the match thwarting the offensive efforts of the Hawks, spearheaded by junior goalkeeper
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering). Brochu tallied nine total saves in her 11
th shutout of the year, highlighted by her game-saving stop from point-blank range with just 43 seconds remaining in regulation.
The women's soccer team look to finish out their regular season in the win column on Wednesday, October 24 at 5:00 p.m. as they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis in GLVC competition.
