(LEBANON, Ill., Oct 24) – The McKendree University women's soccer team upended the University of Missouri-St. Louis 2-0 in their final game of the regular season. The Bearcats improve to 13-3-1 overall and 9-3-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
The Bearcats absolutely overwhelmed the Tritons with their offensive play, outshooting UMSL 25 to nine. McKendree first got on the board in the 51
st minute of play when junior midfielder
Madyson Mossman (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) buried a shot past the Triton goalkeeper after a breakaway attempt. Here efforts were not unmatched as freshman midfielder
Emma Knoebel (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School) would also join the scoresheet after delivering a long penalty shot to the back of the cage in the 82
nd minute. Defensively, junior goalkeeper
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) accumulated four saves in her 12
th shutout of the year.
After Wednesday night's win, the Bearcats solidified a first-place tie in the GLVC standings with Truman State and Southern Indiana, and after a comparison of game results, were awarded the second seed in the GLVC tournament.
