(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 27) – The men's soccer team will fight for their first step towards the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) post-season crown this Sunday at 1 p.m. as they travel to the University of Illinois Springfield to take on the Prairie Stars in the GLVC tournament quarterfinals. This is the first tournament bid in men's soccer program history after joining the league in 2012.
The Bearcats are seeded sixth in the GLVC tournament, currently 10-5-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the GLVC. Offensively, McKendree is led by sophomore midfielder
Eddie Davis (Arundel, England/Amersham College) with 17 points through 16 games, followed by forwards
James Stone (Eastbourne, England/Bede's Senior School) and
Raul Artega (Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico) with eight points each. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper
Alvaro Cortazar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Santa Teresa de Jesus) has 38 saves through 15 games played. Cortazar has also accumulated seven shutouts this season, which is a single-season team record for shutouts during the McKendree NCAA Division II era.
The Prairie stars are seeded third in the GLVC tournament, and are currently 9-5-3 overall in 8-3-2 in the GLVC, most recently falling to Quincy University 1-0 this past Wednesday, October 24.
