(QUINCY, Ill., Oct 7) – The McKendree University men's soccer team fell in overtime to Quincy University Sunday afternoon 3-2. The Bearcats are now 6-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
McKendree started the scoring early in the 17
th minute after freshman defender
Jett Gay (Springfield, IL/Glenwood High School) found the back of the net off of an assist from freshman midfielder
Hampus Filipsson (Norraelje, Sweden/Danderyds Gymnasium). Neither team would score again until the 63
rd minute of play, where three goals were scored within five minutes, one scored by McKendree midfielder
Eddie Davis (Arundel, England/Amersham College) while the other two came from Quincy attackers. With the scored tied 2-2 after regulation, the match was sent into overtime where the Hawks were able to score the game winner in the 97
th minute of play. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper
Alvaro Cortazar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Santa Teresa de Jesus) added six saves to extend his season total to 32.
The men's soccer team will be back in action Friday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. as they travel to Rolla, MO to take on Missouri S&T in another GLVC bout.
