(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 22)--The McKendree University baseball team will be in St. Louis this weekend for a four-game, non-conference series that will be split due to rain in the forecast for this weekend. The Bearcats and Saints will play a doubleheader on Friday, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. After an off-day on Saturday, the teams will close out the weekend with another twinbill on Sunday at noon.
McKendree will be in search of its first victory of the 2018 season after being swept at Mississippi College in a three-game set last weekend. The Bearcats did slug more home runs than the host Choctaws on the weekend, getting round-trippers from freshman Austin Francis and junior Levi Brening. Francis paced McKendree with three runs batted in on the weekend.
Maryville brings a 2-3 season record into Friday's action. The Saints played at Missouri Southern State University last weekend, falling in both games. Camdon Mercier is 5-for-10 on the young campaign for Maryville, while Drake Lubin has 10 hits in his 23 at-bats for a .435 average. Alec Harris (1-1, 0.79 ERA) and Andrew Peters (1-0, 1.59 ERA) have secured both victories on the mound for the Saints.
Following the series at Maryville, the Bearcats will head to Quincy for a four-game series March 2-4. McKendree will make its 2018 debut at Hypes Field March 7 against the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
