(Emporia, KS, Feb. 25) – The McKendree University softball team improved to 6-1 on the 2018 campaign after a 6-4 and 5-1 win over Washburn University today.

McKendree 6 Washburn 4
Washburn opened up game one adding two runs in the second inning. The Ichabods added one in the third to take a 3-0 lead. In the fifth inning
Abbie Bailey (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) doubled down the left field line to put McKendree on the scoreboard.
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) followed with a three-run homer to give the Bearcats a 4-3 lead. In the seventh inning
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) doubled to give McKendree a 5-4 led.
Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) would add anther to seal the 6-4 win.
Game 2
McKendree 5 Washburn 1
Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) kicked off the second game with a solo home run to left to put the Bearcats on the board 1-0. In the fifth McKendree scored three runs as
Sara Radae (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) hit a two-run homer and
Lucendia Adams (Dahlgren, Ill./Hamilton County) scored an unearned run. Washburn would add a run in the sixth to close the gap to 5-1. M. Gajewski singled in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-1 win.
The softball team is back in action tomorrow at Noon as the team takes on Emporia State for a double header.
