(PROVIDENCE, R.I., Feb. 2) – The McKendree University women's water polo team fell 13-5 to Bruno Classic host, Brown University on Friday evening.
 
The Bearcats fall to 2-4 overall on the season, with the loss to Brown. The Bears struck first in the contest with 2:40 remaining in the first quarter. Brown scored again on a five meter penalty shot to take a two goal lead. McKendree responded with a goal by freshman attacker Emily Westlove to draw the Bearcats within one before the close of the first quarter.
 
The Bears struck first again in the second quarter, but senior attacker Sabrina Sherrin answered with a goal of her own. McKendree tied the game at three a side on Sherrin's second goal of the contest. However, Brown added two more goals before halftime to hold a 5-3 lead.
 
Brown scored first after halftime to grab a 6-3 lead, but freshman attacker Alaina Johnson responded to bring the Bearcats back within two. The teams traded goals again before the close of the third quarter, with Westlove netting her second of the contest.  The Bearcats were unable to find the back of the net in the fourth quarter as the Bears scored six to take the 13-5 victory.
 
McKendree is back in action on Saturday for two games at the Bruno Classic. The Bearcats face off against Wagner College at 11:30 a.m. EST, followed by a game against Bucknell College at 6:30 p.m. EST.
