McKendree Falls to Chapman in First Contest of Five Game Road Trip

(ORANGE, Calif., March 1) – The McKendree University women's water polo team fell to Chapman University by a final score of 10-4 on Saturday evening in Orange, CA.
 
The Bearcats fall to 4-9 overall on the season with the loss.
 
Chapman took an early 2-0 lead before McKendree could respond. Sophomore defender Tiana Wilson fired a shot that beat the Panthers goalie on an excellent passing play from sophomore attacker Brianna Mullalley and freshman defender Samantha McGowan. Chapman added one more goal before the close of the first quarter to take a 3-1 lead.
 
The Panthers scored twice before the Bearcats could respond in the second quarter, but freshman attacker Emily Westlove found the back of the net to cut the lead down to three goals. At halftime Chapman led McKendree 5-2.
 
Chapman came out strong in the third quarter, but freshman goaltender Crystal Armstrong made several impressive saves including a five-meter penalty shot save. Senior attacker Sabrina Sherrin scored on a blistering shot from outside of five meters to bring McKendree within two. The Panthers responded by scoring two goals to take a 7-3 lead at the end of the third quarter. Chapman struck first in the fourth quarter to extend the lead, but sophomore utility player Victoria Jones answered to cut the Panther's lead back to four. Chapman would go on to score two more times to grab a 10-4 victory over McKendree.
 
Armstrong made 10 saves in the contest, playing the first three quarters. Senior goalie Gabby Madewell guarded the cage in the fourth quarter registering three saves.
