(Lebanon, Ill., March 21) – McKendree women's lacrosse will look to get back in the win column this weekend, as they will host their first two matches of the season at Leemon Field. The Bearcats will welcome Davenport University on Friday evening for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest before taking on the #3 nationally ranked Lindenwood University Lions on Sunday afternoon.
McKendree is coming off a difficult road trip in which they faced three nationally ranked opponents, including the #1 Florida Southern Moccasins. Following last week's results, the Bearcats are currently 1-4 overall and remain 0-1 in GLIAC play.
Junior midfielder
Hannah Sugarman (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for her effort last week, after picking up 11 ground balls and causing six turnovers in Florida. She currently leads the Bearcats in caused turnovers, with 13 total on the season, and ground balls, with 19 total on the season.
McKendree has been led on offense by senior attackers
Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) and
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, MO/Barat Academy). Salthouse leads the Bearcats with 19 goals and 24 points, while DiPasquale is right behind her with 21 points with a team-high 12 assists on the year.
Davenport University Panthers (2-2, 0-0 GLIAC)
The Panthers last played on March 4, losing by 13 points at Findlay, but are currently third in the GLIAC in goals per game as a team, averaging 14.75.
Senior Ryann Deuel is ranked second in the conference in points with 24, contributing a team leading 16 goals and 8 assists. She also leads the Panthers in draw controls, winning 20 so far on the season.
Sophomore attacker Taylor Ries has collected 14 goals and 8 assists for 22 points through four matches, while junior goalie Alex Yates leads the Panthers in ground balls, with 18.
This will be the first meeting in program history between the Bearcats and the Panthers.
#3 Lindenwood University Lions (10-0, 5-0 RMAC)
The Lions have won their first ten matches of the 2018 season, and have the second best scoring offense and top defense in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Lindenwood has four athletes with twenty or more goals on the year, with senior midfielder Sophie Buelow leading them in points with 41. Junior Hannah Doughty and senior Cassie Stucklen have both scored 26 goals to lead the Lions in that category, with Doughty also leading her team in caused turnovers with 20.
Sophomore midfielder Carly Fedorowski has picked up a team-high 27 ground balls, while senior Rachel Ortell has appeared in net for all ten of the Lions games, boasting a 5.71 GAA and .500 save percentage.
The Bearcats are 0-6 all-time against Lindenwood, dating back to the 2013 season.
