(LEBANON, Ill., March 24)--
The McKendree University baseball team is set to open its Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a weather-delayed four-game series at Bellarmine University. The Bearcats and Knights will play doubleheaders Sunday and Monday at Knights Field in Louisville, Ky., with first pitch coming at noon ET each day.

It will be 10 days between game action for McKendree when the Bearcats see the first pitch of the Bellarmine series. McKendree last played on March 15 at home in a non-conference doubleheader against Missouri S&T. The Bearcats enter Sunday's action with a 4-13 overall record.

Levi Brening and Matt Klosterman continue to pace the McKendree offensive attack. Brening holds down the Bearcats' "triple crown" at the moment, leading the team with a .368 batting average, four home runs and 18 RBI. Klosterman is second on the squad with a .358 average. Both Brening and Klosterman have scored a team-best 11 runs and share the team lead with six doubles and four stolen bases. Following a slow start, Andrew Aydt has seen his average climb to .264 while drawing a team-leading 12 walks.

Brening has also made two starts on the mound, going 0-1 with a 1.64 earned-run average. Nick Yung and Jack Strieker have each made five starts this season. Evan Spears has two of the Bearcats' three saves on the year.

Following the series at Bellarmine, McKendree will return home to host Lewis University Friday and Saturday at Hypes Field.

ABOUT BELLARMINE
The Knights are 12-6 on the year and have won five of their last six contests. Bellarmine had a five-game win streak snapped last Sunday when it dropped the second game of a doubleheader at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Knights are also perfect at home this year, winning all nine contests to date at Knights Field.

Zac Wiley is one of four regulars in the Bellarmine lineup hitting above .300. Wiley leads the Knights with a .457 average and has 15 RBI, which is good for second on the team. Griffin Neuer has posted team-leading totals of five home runs and 25 runs batted in through 18 games for Bellarmine. Neuer is second in the GLVC in RBI, while he is tied for fifth in the conference in homers.

On the mound, Bellarmine is led by Eddie Mathis, who is 3-1 with a 2.51 ERA in 28 2/3 innings of work. Mathis has struck out 32 batters over that span while allowing just six walks. Hunter Spencer is 3-0 so far with a 2.93 ERA. In his 30 2/3 innings this season, Spencer has fanned 29 batters.

Bellarmine swept last season's four-game GLVC series played at Hypes Field.
