(CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 10)—The McKendree University baseball team dropped a 15-0 decision Tuesday evening at NCAA Division I Southeast Missouri State University.
The host Redhawks scored in all but two of their eight at-bats to collect the victory in the first meeting in 20 seasons between the two programs. McKendree moves to 6-21 on the season and will make the short trip to St. Charles, Mo., on Wednesday for a late-afternoon non-conference game against Lindenwood University. The Bearcats and Lions will tangle at 4 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
Senior infielder Jeff Wetzler produced two of McKendree's three hits against SEMO. Wetzler singled to lead off the contest, then added a third-inning single. Freshman catcher Austin Francis collected the Bearcats' other hit on the night as five SEMO pitchers combined for the three-hitter.
The Redhawks scored single runs in the second and third innings before reeling off 11 in the middle three frames to extend their advantage to 13-0. SEMO capped the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Freshman right-hander Lucas Vallandingham drew the start for McKendree at SEMO. Vallandingham allowed two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts over the first three innings for the Bearcats.
