McKendree Returns to GLVC Action at Home Against No. 6 UIS

(LEBANON, Ill., April 12)--
The McKendree University baseball team will step back into Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Hypes Field this weekend when the University of Illinois Springfield visits for a four-game series. The Bearcats and Prairie Stars will open the weekend with a doubleheader on Friday at noon before finishing off with another twinbill Sunday at noon.

McKendree enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-22. The Bearcats played a pair of non-conference road games earlier this week, dropping decisions at Southeast Missouri State University on Tuesday and at Lindenwood University on Wednesday. The Bearcats return to Hypes Field where they hold a 2-3 record so far in 2018. 

Following its four-game set against Illinois Springfield, McKendree will host Missouri S&T for a non-conference clash on Wednesday before heading east to visit the University of Indianapolis next weekend in GLVC play.

ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD
The Prairie Stars are one of the hottest teams in NCAA Division II. After losing its first three games of the 2018 campaign, Illinois Springfield has won 27 of its last 28 contests to bring a 27-4 record to Hypes Field. UIS is also the lone undefeated team in GLVC play at 8-0. 

As a team, Illinois Springfield leads the GLVC in both hitting (.327 average) and pitching (2.43 ERA). Nick Stokowski leads the league with a .437 average, 12 home runs and 47 RBI. Andrew Dean is a perfect 6-0 so far this season with a 2.06 ERA. 

The teams opened the conference schedule against each other last season, with the Prairie Stars winning all four games played in Springfield, Ill.
