(LA JOLLA, Calif., April 27) – The McKendree University women's water polo team was defeated by the top seed University of California – San Diego by a score of 14-2 at the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championships.
The Bearcats entered the WWPA Championships as the No. 8 seed with a record of 8-14, and 0-4 in the WWPA. McKendree fell to the top seeded UCSD in game one of the WWPA Championships and will play again on Saturday at Canyonview Aquatics Center at 11 a.m. against the No. 4 seed Fresno Pacific.
UCSD took an early six goal lead in the first quarter while holding McKendree off the scoreboard. The Bearcats scored once before half on an effort by freshman attacker Emily Westlove. UCSD held a 9-1 lead heading into halftime.
The Tritons added four goals in the third quarter to take a 13-1 lead. Westlove scored again for the Bearcats in the final quarter, but UCSD took home the 14-2 victory.
