(Owensboro, KY., Aug 31) – The McKendree University women's soccer team opens their season 1-0-0 overall after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday evening.
The Bearcats stifled the Panthers with 26 total shots, however goaltending proved to play a major role in this contest. McKendree's junior goal keeper
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) made a total of three saves and earned a shutout in her efforts, while Kentucky Wesleyan's Shelby Stearsman saved a total of 14 shots, allowing the final shot of the game to net in favor of the Bearcats.
Senior center midfielder
Jane Skaggs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) saved the day for McKendree after scoring the game-winning overtime goal in one minute of overtime play. Skaggs finished with five total shots on the night and contributed to a Bearcat offense that showed no fear in attacking the net.
The women's soccer team will be back in action September 7 at 2 p.m. as they return home to face the University of Alabama in Huntsville at Leemon Field.
