(ST. CHARLES, Mo., Jan 11.) – The McKendree University swimming and diving program competed against the Lions from Lindenwood University on Friday afternoon. The men took down the top ranked Lions while the women were narrowly defeated.

For the men, sophomore
Alexander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans Private School) won the 100, 200-yard freestyle with time of 44.50 and 1:40.17. Sophomore
Throstur Bjarnason (Reykjanesbær, Iceland/Fjölbrautaskóli Suðurnesja) won the 500, 1000-yard freestyle races in 4:42.51 and 9:43.42. Junior
Matija Pucarevic (Belgrade, Serbia/Sixth Belgrade Grammar School) took the top honor in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 20.84. Pucarevic also won the 200-yard butterfly, winning the race in 1:52.33. Senior
Daniel Buijs (Amersfoot, Netherlands) touched the first in the 200-yard backstroke, winning in 1:53.31.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Pucarevic, Bjarnason, Skinner, and junior
Luca Simonetti (Sassari, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Gulielmo Marconi Sassari) won the race, finishing in 3:03.23.
Freshman diver
Ethan Larson (Anchorage, AK/Paideia High School) was top in one-meter diving, earning a score of 276.60.
For the women, freshman
Haley Rey (Columbia, IL/Columbia High School) won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.42. Freshman
Hallie Dixon (Jeffersonville, IN/Jeffersonville High School) took the top spot in the 400-yard IM, turning in a time of 4:36.64. Sophomore
Victoria Sananikone (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park High School) was top in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.56. Junior
Sydney Rey (Columbia, IL/Columbia High School) won the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:04.89. Junior
Milica Sostarec (Subotica, Serbia/Medical High School) turned in a time of 24.31 to win the 50-yard freestyle.
The 400-yard medley relay team of S. Rey, sophomore
Christina Marshall (Winston Salem, NC/Reagan High School), Sananikone, and H. Rey turned in a top time of 3:58.47. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sostarec, H. Rey, Sananikone, and sophomore
Meredith Geyer (Germantown, TN/Germantown High School) won the race with a time of 3:33.44.
The swimming and diving program will host their final home meet of the season on Jan 18-19 against Great Lakes Valley Conference members William Jewel and University of Missouri-St. Louis.
