(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 30)--
The McKendree University men's basketball team begins the second half of its Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule this weekend with two home contests at the Statham Center. The University of Indianapolis will open the week with a Thursday night contest before Lewis University will wrap up the Bearcats' brief two-game home stand Saturday afternoon. Both contests can be seen live on the Bearcat Sports Network at www.glvcsn.com/mckendree

Last week, McKendree hit the road for a pair of league battles. The Bearcats gained a split of the games, winning last Thursday at Quincy University 89-85 before dropping a 79-56 decision on Saturday at Truman State University. McKendree moves to 8-10 on the year and sits at 4-5 in GLVC play.

A torrid second-half shooting performance helped lead the Bearcats to an important victory at Quincy. McKendree connected on 70.4 percent of its field goal tries over the final 20 minutes as the team rallied from a 15-point deficit in the first half. Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) netted a game-high 22 points to lead the offensive attack for the Bearcats. Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden) scored 12 of his 20 points during the Bearcats' second-half surge, while CaRondis Harris-Anderson (Waterloo, IA/West) added a season-high 16 points in the win. Alijah Thomas (Des Moines, IA/Hoover) helped out with 14 points and a game-high seven assists for McKendree.

Thanks to last week's balanced offensive efforts, McKendree now has four players averaging at least 10 points per game. Michael leads the way at 15 PPG. He is also third among all NCAA Division II players in free throw percentage, hitting 92.9 percent of his attempts from the stripe. Nolan Gerling (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) is second in scoring at 12 PPG, and leads the Bearcats on the boards with 6.1 RPG. Gerling registered his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Bearcats' setback at Truman State.

Kohrmann and Thomas are tied for third in scoring for McKendree at 10.8 PPG. Thomas is fourth in the GLVC in free throw percentage at 88.3 percent, while Michael has a team-leading 21 steals. Giovanni Offard (Freeport, IL/Freeport) continues to lead the Bearcats with 73 assists.

McKendree will hit the road for four straight games following its Saturday contest against Lewis. The Bearcats will visit William Jewell College, Rockhurst University, the University of Southern Indiana and top-ranked Bellarmine University before returning to the Statham Center on Feb. 23 for a GLVC tilt against the University of Illinois Springfield.

ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS
The Greyhounds enter Thursday's meeting with McKendree at 13-5 overall and 8-2 in GLVC play. Indianapolis has won its last three outings, which includes a 95-67 decision over William Jewell at home on Saturday. Like McKendree, four UIndy players are averaging in double figures in the scoring column. Jesse Kempson and C.J. Hardaway are tied for the team lead at 15.1 PPG. Both players are shooting over 50 percent from the field, as Hardaway leads the duo at 58.4 percent, which is fifth in the conference. Hardaway, who is the reigning GLVC Player of the Week, is also shooting 78.4 percent from the line and shares the team lead with 20 steals. Kempson ls the Greyhounds' leading rebounder at 7.6 RPG, which ranks third among all league players. Jimmy King has 106 assists on the year, and is one of just three players in the GLVC with 100 or more assists entering this week's action.

The teams met once in 2017-18, with host Indianapolis pulling out an 80-75 victory. The Greyhounds hit four crucial free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the victory over the Bearcats. Nolan Gerling (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) had 17 points in the effort, while Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden) chipped in with 16 points.

ABOUT LEWIS
The Flyers are 13-4 on the year and 7-2 in the GLVC heading into a Thursday night match-up at the University of Illinois Springfield. Lewis has won three of its last four games, including a 73-70 triumph Saturday at home over Rockhurst University.

Kendale McCullum leads the way for the Flyers. The transfer from former GLVC member Wisconsin-Parkside is the team's leading scorer at 15.9 PPG and is shooting 51.6 percent from the field. McCullum has also collected team-high totals of 112 assists and 46 steals, both of which lead the conference. Delaney Blaylock is chipping in 15.6 PPG and a team-best 5.8 RPG. Adam Pischke rounds out the list of double digit scorers for Lewis at 11.2 PPG.

Lewis defeated McKendree 91-77 in the only 2017-18 meeting between the two squads on Feb. 3, 2018 in Romeoville, Ill. Nolan Gerling (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) had a big outing against the Flyers with 23 points, while Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden) added 13 points and five assists.
