Box Score (KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 11) – The McKendree University men's soccer team bested the Hawks of Rockhurst University 3-0 on the road this Friday evening, netting three goals in the first half and blanking the Hawks through 90 minutes. The Bearcats are now 7-1-2 overall and 6-0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
McKendree scored early and often in the first half, hitting the game-winner just two minutes into play off the foot of
Hampus Filipsson (Norraelje, Sweden/Danderyds Gymnasium) courtesy of a
Matthew Moran (Perryville, MO/Perryville High School) assist followed by two goals in the 24
th and 28
th minutes of play, first coming from
Gonzalo Correa (Santiago, Chile/Athletic Study Center) and followed up by a penalty shot goal from
Eddie Davis (Arundel, England/Amersham College). Both teams were unable to capitalize on chances in the second half, though the Bearcats paced that match out-shooting Rockhurst 18 to eight, with 10 shots on goal to the Hawks' one. McKendree goalkeeper
Pachu Cortazar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Santa Teresa de Jesus) made one save in a winning effort.
The men's soccer program will be back in action this upcoming Sunday, October 13 as they travel to Liberty, Mo. to take on William Jewell College in another GLVC matchup.
