(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Oct. 12) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team dropped it's final Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) match of the week at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 3-0 on Saturday. The Bearcats are now 8-10 overall on the season and 3-4 in the GLVC.
McKendree opened the match slow on its feet finding itself at a 5-0 deficit against UMSL to start the first set. The Bearcats were never able to overcome the point spread and fell in the first set, 25-17 to the Tritons. UMSL maintained the momentum in the second set as well earning a 25-18 win over McKendree despite the Bearcats recording their best team hitting percentage. The Tritons earned the sweep with a, 25-20 win in the third set.
Sophomore middle blocker
Hope Gramly (Prosper, TX/Prosper) led the offense with 12 kills on the night, earning a .391 hitting percentage for the match. Along with a strong offensive performance, Gramly tallied four block assists to help defensively as well.
Defensively, senior libero
Alissa Zeitelhack (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) led the Bearcats with 11 total digs in the three sets. Sophomore outside hitter
Elle Russell (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) and senior outside hitter
Kelly Voss (St. Rose, IL/Mater Dei) were also essential for the Bearcat defense, Russell with nine digs and Voss with seven.
McKendree will take a break from GLVC competition for the Midwest Regional Crossover tournament next weekend, Oct. 18-19. The tournament schedule will be released early this week.
