(O'FALLON, Ill., Oct. 13) – The McKendree University women's hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to visiting Minot State on Sunday afternoon. Two goals by the Beavers in the third period proved to be the difference after McKendree tied the game in the second period. 

The Bearcats slip to 2-4 overall on the season.

Both teams weren't able to ignite their offense in the opening period as they each mustered five shots apiece. Minot State struck first with a goal eight minutes into the second period. The Beavers extended their lead to two, scoring a power play goal with six minutes left in the period.

Senior Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/) cut into the lead as she flew past the Beaver defense and sliding the puck past the goaltender. Freshman Juliana Davis (Onanole, Manitoba, Canada) was credited with the assist. With under a minute remaining in the period, freshman Camryn Scully (Prince George, BC, Canada/Prince George Secondary School) caught a pass from freshman Quinn Atchison (Victoria, BC, Canada/Belmont Seconday School) and shot high past the goalie to tie the game a two heading into the final period.

Minot State scored twice in the third period, once on the power play, to take a 4-2 victory over the Bearcats.

Sophomore Naomi Leasck (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School) was 33/35 on saves, good for a .942 save percentage.

The Bearcats will be back on the ice on Oct. 18, when they open up the Arizona State Showcase against the University of Utah in Springfield, Mo.
