(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 18) – The McKendree women's soccer team bested the Flyers of Lewis University 1-0 this Friday afternoon after notching an early second half goal against the fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) competitor. The Bearcats are now 10-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in GLVC play.
 
The lone goal of the match came just after the start of the second half in the 52^nd minute of play as freshman midfielder Paula Melsheimer (Reil, Germany/Gymnasium Traben-Trarbach) got a breakaway chance courtesy of a Allison Frederking (Weldon Springs, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) feed, sending a shot past the Flyer goalkeeper. Overall, McKendree and Lewis were relatively even in scoring opportunities, with the Bearcats slightly leading in shot 10 to nine. Senior goalkeeper Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering High School) made five saves in a shutout effort.
 
McKendree will be back in action this Sunday, October 20 when they play host to visiting GLVC foe Illinois Springfield at 12 p.m.
