(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 18) – The McKendree University men's soccer team topped the Flyers of Lewis University 1-0 this Friday evening. The Bearcats are now 9-1-2 overall and 8-0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play and are now on an eight-game win streak.
McKendree and the Flyers were virtually deadlocked on the stat-sheet, with Lewis leading the Bearcats in shots nine to eight, while also leading in shots on goal by just four to three. Despite leading in both categories, McKendree would come out with the lone goal of the match, coming off the foot of junior forward
James Stone (Eastbourne, England/Bede's Senior School) in the 25
th minute, the chance set up by
Hampus Filipsson's (Norraelje, Sweden/Danderyds Gymnasium) headed pass. Following a chippy and highly contested second half, McKendree survived and came away with their eighth consecutive victory.

Pachu Cortazar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Santa Teresa de Jesus) made four saves in a shutout effort.
The men's soccer program will be back in action this Sunday, October 20 as they take on the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield at 2:30 p.m.
