(NEW LONDON, Conn., Oct. 19) – The McKendree University men's water polo team opened up a Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) play weekend with games against Washington and Jefferson College and Salem University in New London, Conn. on Saturday. The Bearcats scored 44 total goals between the two games.
McKendree moves to 8-9 overall and 4-1 in MAWPC-West region play. The Bearcats will close out conference play on Sunday against Connecticut College at 10:30am ET.
All 11 players registered a goal in the 24-8 victory over Washington and Jefferson with three scoring four goals, four scoring two, and the rest registered one goal. Senior
Izaya Owotor (Portland, OR/David Douglas High School), junior
Jesus Osorio (San Bernardino, CA/Cajon High School), and sophomore
Matthew Haygood (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills High School) netted four scores while seniors
Michael Krause (St. Louis, MO/Saint Louis University High School),
Joseph Mahan (Corinth, TX/John H Guyer High School), junior
Ben Brauer (Duisburg, Germany/Steinbart-Gymnasium Duisburg), and sophomore
Aaron Jacobs (Houston, TX/Jersey Village High School) netted two goals apiece.
Juniors
Abraham Allen (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves High School),
Adrian Maher (Keller, TX/Keller High School), sophomore
Josh Carlson (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way West), and freshman
Tristen Clue (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills High School) each netted a single goal.
Brauer facilitated the attack, dishing out seven assists on the day. Osorio followed up with four helpers himself.
In the cage, senior
Marko Vucetic (Belgrade, Serbia/Redstar Academy) and junior
Ori Scanlon (Orlando, FL/Olympia High School) each played a half, allowing four goals apiece.
In the 20-14 win against Salem, Brauer and Haygood accounted for half the goals, scoring six apiece. Osorio finished with three goals and Mahan scored twice in the game.
Krause, Allen, and Maher each scored a single goal.
Osorio and Jacobs each helped guide the offense with three assists. Krause and Allen followed up with two helpers.
Scanlon finished with 10 saves, three steals, and two assists in the win.
