(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Oct. 19) – The McKendree University women's hockey team continued play in the Arizona State Showcase at Mediacom Ice Park in Springfield, Mo. against the showcase host, Arizona State. The Bearcats allowed their first goal in five games at the Arizona State Showcase, winning 5-1.
McKendree moved back to .500 at 4-4 overall. The Bearcats will close out the Showcase on Sunday, against the University of Colorado.
The Sun Devils got on the board first with four minutes remaining in the period. McKendree trailed 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes.
The Bearcats stormed back with three goals in the second period. Junior
Jana Garrow (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) got the Bearcats on the board with help from senior
Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) and sophomore
Kayla Waldbillig (West Kelowna, BC, Canada/Mount Boucherie Secondary School). A minute later, freshman
Camryn Scully (Prince George, BC, Canada/Prince George Secondary School) pushed McKendree ahead off passes with junior
Paris Suzuki (Covina, CA/Covina High School) and senior
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central). Only 21 seconds later, junior
Callie Hoadley (Hanover, MA/Hanover High School) extended the lead. Senior
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/) and junior
Charleigh Wagner (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional Senior HS) were credited with the helpers. The Bearcats carried a 3-1 lead into the final period.
Wentz scored eight minutes into the third period with help from Hoadley and freshman
Juliana Davis (Onanole, Manitoba, Canada). Scully scored her second goal of the game with seven seconds remaining with an assist from Garrow.
