(INIDANAPOLIS, Ind., Oct. 19) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team fell to Davenport University, 3-0 in its final match in the Midwest Region Crossover. The Bearcats are now 10-11 overall on the season.
McKendree pulled away from the Panthers early on claiming a 12-6 lead at the largest point spread. Davenport went on a seven-point run to reclaim the lead late on in the first set, 20-17. The Bearcats then went on a four-point run of their own tying the set up at 24-24. From there, it was a back-and-forth battle until Davenport managed two back to back points to claim a 28-26 victory in the first set.
Competition was competitive in the second set with no team able to pull away from the other. It remained that way throughout the entire set until the Panthers scored two back-to-back points to lead the Bearcats, 24-22. McKendree answered back with a point of its own but Davenport scored the final point to take the set, 25-23.
The third set was forced into extra points as well as competition remained even between the Panthers and the Bearcats but once again Davenport was able to come out on top, 28-26.
Junior middle blocker
Alexandria Muschong (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock) recorded a season best .800 hitting percentage with eight kills in the match. Along with her strong offensive performance, Muschong also collected two solo blocks and two block assists for the defense.
Freshman outside hitter
Maddie Misner (Carbondale, IL/Carbondale) and senior libero
Alissa Zeitelhack (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) remained strong on the back line for the Bearcats. Misner led the way with 15 digs and Zeitelhack was close behind with 12 total digs.
As a team, the Bearcats recorded eight service aces with junior setter
Gracie Marr (Castle Rock, CO/Castle View) collecting the most with four in the match bringing McKendree to a total of 28 service aces in the tournament.
The Bearcats will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) competition with a match at Bellarmine University on Oct. 25 in Louisville, Ky. First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET.
