(QUINCY, Ill., Oct. 25) – The no. 19 McKendree University men's soccer team bested the Hawks of Quincy University 2-1 this Friday evening after some late-match heroics form the Bearcat front line. The Bearcats are now 11-1-2 overall and 10-0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play, officially extending their win streak to ten games.
The Hawks got on the board fairly early, scoring on their only shot on goal in the fourth minute of play. For the remainder of the match the Bearcats mixed in stout defensive play with a few offensive chances and found their opportunity in the 85
th minute as junior forward
James Stone (Eastbourne, England/Bede's Senior School) sent a header past the Quincy goalkeeper courtesy of an
Eddie Davis (Arundel, England/Amersham College) assist. As the game neared the end of regulation and it seemed the match would be heading into overtime, Stone would net his third-straight game-winner with just 45 seconds remaining on the clock. The Bearcats survived the final seconds of play and came out victorious while preserving their undefeated record against GLVC competition.
The men's soccer program will be back in action this Sunday, October 27 at 12:00 p.m. as they travel to Kirksville, MO to face the Bulldogs of Truman State University.
