(KIRKSVILLE, Mo., Oct. 27) – The no. 19 McKendree University men's soccer defeated the Bulldogs of Truman State 2-0 this Sunday afternoon, scoring in both the first and second halves. The Bearcats are now 12-1-2 overall and 11-0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play, officially extending their win steak to eleven games.
The Bearcats found the back of the net for the first time this afternoon in the 31
st minute of play after junior defender
Ariel Cardozo (Ciudad del Este, Paraguay/Universidad San Carlos) sent the ball past the Bulldog goalkeeper on a play set up by
Lukas Vaiciunas (Vilnius, Lithuania/Sofijos Kovalevskajos gymnasium) and
Eddie Davis (Arundel, England/Amersham College). McKendree would head into halftime with a 1-0 lead over Truman State, and junior forward
James Stone (Eastbourne, England/Bede's Senior School) delivered a dagger in the 88
th minute to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead, ultimately putting the game out of reach for the Bulldogs. After Sunday, Stone now holds a five-game goal streak. Redshirt-junior goaltender
Pachu Cortazar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Santa Teresa de Jesus) made two saves in a shutout effort.
The men's soccer program will be back in action this Friday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. as they host fellow GLVC contenders Missouri S&T on Leemon Field.
