(BOLIVAR, Mo., Oct. 6) – The McKendree University men's soccer team edged out the fellow Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University after scoring in the final 10 minutes of regulation this past Sunday afternoon. McKendree are now on a five-game win streak with an overall record of 6-1-2 and a 5-0-2 record in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
McKendree brought the firepower this Sunday, out-shooting SBU 21 to nine with nine shots on goal to Baptist's five. One of those nine shots on goal became the eventual game winner after junior forward
Rulo Arteaga (Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico) rocketed a shot into the back of the SBU net courtesy of a
James Stone (Eastbourne, England/Bede's Senior School) assist in the 81
st minute. With such a late goal and with McKendree controlling the pace of the game, Southwest Baptist was unable to take advantage of another scoring opportunity, sealing the victory for the Bearcats from Lebanon, Illinois. Junior goalkeeper
Brett Niedzwiecki (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville High School) made five saves in a shutout effort, his fourth of the season.
The men's soccer program will be back in action this upcoming Friday, October 6 as they travel to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst University in another GLVC matchup.
