(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 2) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team dropped its Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) contest against No. 8 Lewis University, 3-0. The Bearcats are now 11-14 overall and 4-7 in the conference competition.
McKendree and the Flyers went point-for-point to open the match with Lewis pulling away slightly gaining a 20-17 lead. T
The Bearcats weren't able to answer back as the Flyers went on a five-point run to close out the first set, 25-17 against McKendree. Lewis used the momentum from the first set to collect a 25-14 win in the second set over the Bearcats. McKendree put up more of a fight in the third set but ultimately fell, 25-21 and 3-0 in the match.
Offensive leaders for the Bearcats were junior outside hitter
Elle Russell (Festus, MO/St. Pius X), senior outside hitter
Kelly Voss (St. Rose, IL/Mater Dei), and senior middle blocker
Megan Marks (Colgate, WI/Germantown). Russell collected a third of the Bearcats total kills in the match with 10, Voss was next with six, and Marks followed closely with five total kills.
Defensive leaders for McKendree were Voss, senior libero
Alissa Zeitelhack (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West), Russell, and freshman setter
Macy Tongate (Towanda, IL/Normal University High School). Voss led the pack with 14 digs, Zeitelhack was next with 12, and both Russell and Tongate earned seven digs a piece.
The Bearcats will close out their four-game home stand with a match against Maryville University on Friday at 7 p.m. and then a senior day match against Missouri S&T on Saturday at 3 p.m.
