Women’s Soccer Falls to Top-Seeded Grand Valley in NCAA Second Round

Box Score (Grand Rapids, Mich., Nov. 24) – The McKendree women's soccer team was bested by the Lakers of Grand Valley State University 4-0 this Sunday afternoon, thus concluding their illustrious 2019 season. The Bearcats finish the season at 16-4-3 overall.

Despite the loss, McKendree senior goalkeeper Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering High School) earned 10 saves through 90 minutes in an attempt to give the Bearcat offensive unit a chance to best the top-ranked Laker defense. "We fought hard today, but ultimately came up short against an impressive Grand Valley team," head women's soccer coach Tim Strange. "I'm incredibly proud of these girls for their efforts during our post-season run, and very happy that we picked up our second ever NCAA Tournament victory against a tough Ashland team earlier this weekend. We're disappointed to go home now, but there's plenty of things for us to learn from and improve on for next season."

Sunday's loss caps a 2019 campaign that saw four McKendree players earn All-Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) honors (with Brochu also earning GLVC Defensive Player of the Year honors), as well as earning their second-consecutive GLVC Regular Season Championship.

"I'm very impressed at how hard the team has worked this season, and they deserve all of the recognition they have received during this past year. As a coaching staff, we are looking forward to building on our successes this season and preparing for another championship run in 2020," said Strange on the season as a whole.
