(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 3) – The McKendree women's soccer team defeated the Saints of Maryville University 2-1 this Sunday afternoon. With the victory, The Bearcats conclude the regular season as the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Regular Season Champions, with a 13-3-2 overall and 10-2-2 in GLVC play.
Maryville got in the scoring column first in the 6
th minute of play, though McKendree's tenacity set the pace for the remainder of the game. The Bearcats outshot Maryville 11 to four through 90 minutes, and found their equalizing goal in the 33
rd minute as freshman midfielder
Allison Frederking (Weldon Springs, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) struck the back of the net off a miraculous through ball from sophomore
Riley Ross (Springfield, IL/Rochester High School). The Bearcats would ride that momentum through halftime, with
Emma Knoebel (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School) scoring the eventual game-winner in the 82
nd minute on a
Kate Bixby (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North High School) assist. McKendree would ride out the remaining eight minutes of regulation, and as time expired the sideline erupted in celebration as the victory ensured the Bearcats their second-consecutive GLVC Regular Season Championship. Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering High School) made one save in the victory.
McKendree will be back in action for the GLVC Championship Tournament this upcoming Sunday November 10 as they host eighth-seeded Lewis at Leemon Field with kick-off starting at noon.
