Bearcats Post Runner-Up Finish at Track Kat Klash

(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 6)—The McKendree University women's bowling team turned in a second place showing last weekend at the Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas. Sam Houston State University served as host of the 16-team, three-day tournament.

The Bearcats earned the top seed heading into Sunday's bracket play based on having the top pin total in the field through traditional and Baker play. The University of Nebraska defeated McKendree in the bracket championship match in a seven-game Baker contest. By going 8-5 at the Track Kat Klash, McKendree now has a season match record of 19-7. The Bearcats will return to action Nov. 15-16 at the Stormin' Ladyjack Classic, which will also be held in Houston.

On Friday, McKendree posted a 3-2 record in Baker action. The Bearcats stormed past North Carolina A&T State University to open the weekend before being edged by Duquesne University. McKendree rebounded to defeat Southern University and lost to Texas Southern University before closing out the day with a convincing triumph over Jackson State University.

The Bearcats rolled through Saturday's traditional play with four victories in five matches. McKendree won their first four matches of the day, including wins over the University of Nebraska and host Sam Houston State. The Bearcats' lone loss on Saturday came against Stephen F. Austin State University by just 27 pins.

McKendree took the top seed into Sunday against Nebraska. The Huskers exacted revenge from Saturday's loss by defeating the Bearcats in five games in the best-of-seven Baker format. McKendree then took down Arkansas State University in five games to earn a rematch with Nebraska in the finals. The Huskers built a 3-1 lead before the Bearcats rallied back, taking games five and six to force a winner-take-all seventh contest. Nebraska then edged McKendree 191-168 to win the title.

Individually, senior Isabella Correa-Sarmiento earned All-Tournament honors with her third place finish in the field. Correa-Sarmiento collected 1,087 pins in her five-game block to average 217.4 for the weekend.
