ERIE, Penn., Nov. 9) – The McKendree University men's water polo team beat Monmouth College and Salem University to advance to the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) West Championship game for the second consecutive year. The Bearcats will face off against Gannon University on Sunday at 1:30pm ET.
McKendree beat Monmouth 23-8 in morning before beating Salem 16-15 in sudden death overtime.
For the third time this season, the Bearcats rolled offensively through Monmouth. In all three games, McKendree has put up 20+ goals en route to double digit wins.
Putting up 23 goals, 11 different Bearcats saw themselves in the scoring column. Leading the way was junior
Ben Brauer (Duisburg, Germany/Steinbart-Gymnasium Duisburg) with five goals. Sophomore
Matthew Haygood (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills High School) followed with three, seniors
Izaya Owotor (Portland, OR/David Douglas High School),
Daniel Peralta (Lakewood, CA/Lakewood High School), juniors
Abraham Allen (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves High School),
Andrew Serrano (Riverside, CA/Martin Luther King High School),
Chava Osorio (San Bernardino, CA/Cajon High School), and sophomore
Tony Sunagawa (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills High School) each added in two goals apiece.
Senior
Joseph Mahan (Corinth, TX/John H Guyer High School), sophomore
Josh Carlson (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way West), and freshman
Tristen Clue (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills High School) each scored a single goal.
Osorio lead the offense with a game high seven assists. Sunagawa dished out three and Carlson, Mahan added two themselves.
In the cage, senior
Marko Vucetic (Belgrade, Serbia/Redstar Academy) and sophomore
Bryce Tully (Yucaipa, CA/Yucaipa High School) split time. Vucetic made six saves and Tully added four saves and a steal.
In the overtime win against Salem, the Bearcats were led by Mahan and Osorio with three goals. Junior
Adrian Maher (Keller, TX/Keller High School), Brauer, and Haygood each added in two goals.
Sophomore
Nico Rodriguez (Bogota, Columbia/Oviedo High School), Carlson, sophomore
Aaron Jacobs (Houston, TX/Jersey Village High School), and Sunagawa contributed a single goal apiece.
Junior goalie
Ori Scanlon (Orlando, FL/Olympia High School) made 12 saves.
