(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 5) – The McKendree University men's basketball team will continue non-conference play with a game at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
The Bearcats are coming off of a 68-64 victory over No. 9 Southern Indiana this past Tuesday as they opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference play. McKendree overcame a 35-23 point deficit at half to defeat the nationally ranked Screaming Eagles. Four players recorded double-digit points for the Bearcats with freshman forward
Bryson Bultman (Nashville, IL/Nashville) leading the pack with 16 points.
Five Bearcats are averaging double-digit points on the season. Junior guard
Oliver Stephen (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) currently holds the highest average at 16.2 points per game. Senior guard
Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) follows suit with 14 points per game on average. Sophomore forward
Aleksa Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia/BC Partizan Belgrade), senior guard
Nate Bethel (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Louis Christian Academy), and Bultman are the remaining three Bearcats, Popovis averging 11.7, Bethel 11, and Bultman 11.3 points per game.
McKendree is 4-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in the GLVC. The Bearcats will compete in three more non-conference games before the year is up, two at the Quincy Subway Holiday Classic against Lincoln and Hannibal-Lagrange and one at Austin Peay State. McKendree won't resume conference competition until the new year when they take on Southwest Baptist Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at home in the Statham Center.
ABOUT UNION UNIVERSITY:
Union is 5-3 overall on the 2019-20 season and 1-1 in the Gulf South Conference. The Bulldogs are coming off of a 88-60 win over Fisk university this past Tuesday. Cooper Meadows posted 19 points, LiDonta Hicks-Gentry tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Tylandrius Parks recorded 14 points for Union in its victory over Fisk.
Union has two athletes averaging double digit points per game. Tyree Boykin leads the Bulldogs in with 22.9 average points per game on the season followed by Parks who averages 11.6.
The Bearcats and the Bulldogs last played each other on November 20, 2018 in Lebanon, Ill. at the Statham Center. It was a close match-up but McKendree come out on top, 80-78.
