(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 13)--The McKendree University men's basketball team will travel east for its final two road games of the 2018-19 regular season. The Bearcats will take on the University of Southern Indiana on Thursday night in Evansville, Ind., before wrapping up a four-game road swing Saturday afternoon at Bellarmine University.
McKendree enters the week with an overall record of 9-13 and a 5-8 record in Great Lakes Valley Conference competition. The Bearcats last played on Saturday in Kansas City, Mo., when they dropped a 75-55 decision at Rockhurst University.
Nolan Gerling (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei),
Alijah Thomas (Des Moines, IA/Hoover) and
Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) each posted 11 points to share team-high scoring honors against the Hawks.
Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden) moved into the top 25 on the Bearcats' all-time scoring list last week. Michael pushed his career total to 1,468 points, which moved him past John Steppe (1,462 points) and Dale Haverman (1,466 points) into the No. 25 slot on the career chart for McKendree. Michael also has 213 three-point field goals, which is tied for seventh in program history. This season, he sits sixth among all NCAA Division II players in free throw percentage, hitting 91.5 percent of his attempts.
Following this week's play, McKendree will have its final three games of the regular season inside the Statham Center in Lebanon. The Bearcats will host the University of Illinois Springfield on Feb. 23 before Bellarmine comes to town on Feb. 28 and Southern Indiana closes out the regular season slate on March 2.
ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA
The Screaming Eagles are 16-6 overall and 8-4 in GLVC action. Southern Indiana had won seven of eight outings before a 79-69 setback on Saturday at Lewis University. Alex Stein scored a team-leading 22 points to pace USI as Emmanuel Little added 13 points.
Stein is currently third in the GLVC in scoring at 20.3 PPG. He has also connected on nearly 46 percent of his three-point attempts this season and is second on the squad with 66 assists. Kobe Caldwell is averaging 13.9 PP, while Little is chipping in 11.4 PPG and a team-leading 7.5 RPG.
The Screaming Eagles won the last game between the two teams back on Jan. 27, 2018 in Lebanon, 86-56.
ABOUT BELLARMINE
The Knights reeled off 18 consecutive victories to start the 2018-19 season and held the No. 1 spot in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II rankings before dropping their last three contests. In addition to their 18-3 season mark, Bellarmine is tied atop the GLVC standings at 9-3. The Knights were defeated on Saturday at the University of Indianapolis, 78-69. Alex Cook paced a balanced attack for Bellarmine with 15 points while C.J. Fleming connected for 12 points.
Adam Eberhard is fourth on the GLVC scoring list at 19.6 PPG. Eberhard is also hitting on 63.9 percent of his field goal tries, which is good for third in the league. Chivarsky Corbett is averaging 13.1 PPG and leads the Knights in rebounding at 6.8 RPG. IN addition to his 10.9 PPG scoring average, Cook is shooting a conference-best 66.7 percent from the field.
Bellarmine posted an 87-66 win over McKendree in last year's contest held on Feb. 8, 2018 inside the Statham Center.
