(O'FALLON, Ill., Feb. 15) – The McKendree University women's hockey team was defeated by the Rams from the University of Rhode Island by the score of 3-2 early Friday night.
The Bearcats fall to 15-8 overall on the season with the loss.
The Rams recorded the lone goal in the first period while on the power-play.
Sophomore
Dakota Peterson (Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada) tied the game at one four minutes into the second period from her knees off a rebound on a shot from junior
Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood). Peterson's goal was a power-play goal. Six minutes later, Peterson gave the Bearcats the lead after burying a loose puck in the front of the net. Juniors
Jana Garrow (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) and
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/) were credited with assists.
Rhode Island netted the game winning goal with eight minutes left in the final period to claim a 3-2 victory over McKendree.
The Bearcats outshot the Rams 39 to 31 in the contest.
Freshman goaltender
Naomi Leasck (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School) recorded 28/31 shots for a .903 save percentage.
The Bearcats will look for a sweep on Saturday afternoon at 2:00p.m. at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
