(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 27)--The McKendree University men's basketball team will close out its 2018-19 regular season slate by hosting a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference foes. The Bearcats will entertain No. 13-ranked Bellarmine University Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. before the University of Southern Indiana provides the opposition for Saturday's Senior Day contest at 3 p.m.
McKendree is 9-16 overall and 5-11 in the GLVC following a narrow 76-75 loss on Saturday at home against the University of Illinois Springfield. The Prairie Stars took the lead with one minute remaining and survived a potential game-winning shot attempt by the Bearcats in the closing seconds to preseve the victory.
Nolan Gerling (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) had 21 points to lead McKendree while
Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) added 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the effort.
Alijah Thomas (Des Moines, IA/Hoover) helped out with 11 points, four assists and three steals for the Bearcats.
Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden), who had eight points against UIS, moved up another spot on McKendree's career scoring list. With 1,515 points, Michael sits in 22nd place all-time in program history. He leads the Bearcats in scoring entering the final week of the regular season at 14.4 PPG. He leads the GLVC and is seventh in NCAA Division II in free throw percentage at 91.2 percent. Kohrmann is second on the squad in scoring at 12.7 PPG, while Gerling (11.8 PPG) and Thomas (10.2 PPG) round out the list of double figure scorers for the Bearcats. Gerling is the team's top rebounder, hauling in six per outing.
Giovanni Offard (Freeport, IL/Freeport) continues to pace McKendree with 80 assists, while Thomas is a close second with 76.
As a team, McKendree is third in the GLVC in free throw percentage. The Bearcats have hit 78.8 percent of their tries from the charity stripe, which also ranks 15th among all NCAA Division II programs.
ABOUT BELLARMINE
The Knights enter Thursday's contest with a season record of 21-4 and a GLVC ledger of 12-4. The Knights had a three-game win streak come to an end Saturday with a 63-62 loss to visiting Lewis University. The Flyers' Kendale McCullum hit a shot in the closing seconds to send the Knights to the one-point defeat. Chivarsky Corbett connected for a team-leading 16 points and nine rebounds, while Daniel Ramser added 10 points. Adam Eberhard chipped in with a team-high nine assists for Bellarmine.
Eberhard is fourth in the GLVC in scoring at 18.9 PPG. He has hit 62.8 percent of his field goal attempts and 85.1 percent of his tries from the foul line. Eberhard has also handed out 112 assists, which is fifth in the league. Chivarsky is second on the Knights' squad at 12.9 PPG, and he is the team's leading rebounder at 7.0 PPG. As a team, Bellarmine leads the GLVC in several statistical categories, including scoring defense (65.8 PPG), scoring margin (+16.3 PPG) and field goal percentage (.550).
The Knights defeated the Bearcats in the first meeting for the two squads back on Feb. 16, 95-74.

Jacob Donaldson (Effingham, IL/Effingham) dropped in a season-high 16 points and
Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden) posted 12 points.
ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA
The Screaming Eagles are 19-7 on the year and 11-5 in the GLVC heading into its Thursday tilt at Illinois Springfield. USI has won three of its last four outings, including a 67-65 win on Saturday at home against the University of Indianapolis. Playing in its final game at the Physical Activities Center in Evansville, Southern Indiana won on a last-second shot by Alex Stein, who had a game-high 26 points in the contest. Jacob Norman added nine rebounds as Mateo Rivera contributed three steals for USI.
Stein leads the Screaming Eagles -- and is second in the GLVC -- in scoring at 21 PPG. He is shooting a team-best 57.1 percent from the field and is second on the team with 78 assists. Kobe Caldwell is second on the team with 13.4 PPG, while Emmanuel Little rounds out the list of double figure scorers for Southern Indiana at 11.8 PPG. Little also tops the squad at 7.4 RPG.
McKendree and Southern Indiana staged a shootout back on Feb. 14 in Evansville, as the host Screaming Eagles outlasted the Bearcats 100-95. All five starters scored in double digits for McKendree, led by a season-high 27 points from
Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden).
Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) chipped in with 25 points and a team-leading nine assists, while
Alijah Thomas (Des Moines, IA/Hoover) posted 15 points and a team-high five assists in the contest.
