(Lebanon, Ill., Feb. 27) – The McKendree University softball team won both games against the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University Wednesday evening, dominating SBU in game one by a score of 6-0 and winning game two 10-3.
In game one, the McKendree got on the board early and often, scoring all runs in the first three innings. Scoring was highlighted by a 2 RBI homerun shot by sophomore
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) in the third inning. Gajewski also got the win at the circle as well for McKendree, combining with
Hannah Murphy (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North) and
Whitney Boschert (Wentzville, MO/Francis Howell High School) for seven strike-outs in a shut-out effort.
Game two saw Southwest Baptist get on the board for the first time of the day, scoring two of their three runs in the top of the first. McKendree answered with one run in the first and regained the lead after sophomore
Haegen Boyer (Eddyville, IA/Eddyville) and junior
Abbie Bailey (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) were able to score. McKendree sealed the win by scoring two more runs in the fifth and exploding for five runs in the sixth, and in return secured an undefeated record in the Battle of the Bearcats.
Softball is now 7-7 on the year and will head back out on the diamond Saturday, March 2 as they take on the University of Central Missouri.
